The Front Path

This house was built by a Leith wine merchant in 1823 as a townhouse for his family, and the building has witnessed a lot of changes over the years. The house was a rather sad old lady when we acquired her in 1995. Happily she's now restored to some of her former glory and is once again creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests who cross her threshold.

Garlands is a B listed building on four levels with the upper rooms accessed from a central, rather grand, staircase. The main architectural feature is the ionic pilastered doorpieces.

Getting here is quite straightforward. Read our directions below to help you on your way.

The A1 and A68 terminate at the east end of Princes Street. From the A1 you make a right turn from Waterloo Place on to the A900 (Leith). From the A68 you veer right from South Bridge on to the A900. In both case, carry on down Leith Street until you reach a roundabout. Carry straight over (the Playhouse Theatre will be on your right) until you reach a second roundabout.
